Getting started
When can I get Tintcape?
Tintcape is coming soon to the App Store for iPhone and iPad. This website will link to it as soon as it’s available.
What do I need?
An iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. Tintcape works in Safari.
How do I turn Tintcape on?
Open the Tintcape app and follow its three setup steps. Or go straight to Settings: on iOS and iPadOS 18 or later, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions > Tintcape. On iOS and iPadOS 17, open Settings > Safari > Extensions > Tintcape. Turn Tintcape on and allow it on all websites or just the ones you want to change.
Where do I find Tintcape in Safari?
Open a website, then choose Tintcape from Safari’s page menu or extensions menu. Its controls open right over the page.
Everyday use
A website doesn’t look right. What can I do?
Open Tintcape on that website and choose Site > On this site > Off, or try a different palette. Websites that already have a dark theme keep their own colors unless you choose otherwise. Safari’s own pages and some PDFs can’t be changed by extensions.
Some images turn dark or disappear.
In Tintcape’s Theme tab, turn on Keep images visible. It brings back images that turn black on dark pages.
Can Tintcape follow my device’s dark mode?
Yes. In More > Global appearance, choose System to follow your device, Always to keep Tintcape on, or Schedule to choose the hours.
Is there a Mac version?
Tintcape is made for Safari on iPhone and iPad.
Tintcape Pro
What’s included in Tintcape Pro?
Whole-page styles, your own colors (also picked straight from a page), fonts, text size and text stroke, saved styles and theme codes, a different theme for each website, and warmth, grayscale and image dimming. Dark mode, palettes, brightness and contrast, schedules and turning Tintcape on or off for a website stay free.
How do I buy or restore Tintcape Pro?
Open the Tintcape app and tap Unlock Pro. If you already bought it with your Apple Account, tap Restore purchase. Tintcape Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription, and your family can use it through Family Sharing.
Which fonts can I use?
With Tintcape Pro you can keep the website’s original font or choose System font, recommended fonts and your favorites. Browse all fonts adds search and categories for the fonts Safari can use on your device, and Pick from page finds the font of any text you tap. Tintcape doesn’t download or install fonts.
Can I share a look with someone?
Yes, with Tintcape Pro. In Theme > Styles, choose Share theme to send your current look or Copy theme to copy it as a code. The other person adds it under Import a theme. A theme contains colors and fonts only, never your site settings.
Your settings and privacy
Do my settings sync between devices?
No. Settings stay on your device. To move them, choose Export settings in Tintcape’s More tab, then Import settings on the other device. A backup can include your site settings, so share it thoughtfully.
Does Tintcape collect my data?
No. There’s no account and no analytics, and your browsing is not sent to us. The privacy policy has the details.
